Hubballi's Karwar Road Transforms into Illegal Garbage Dumping Zone
For the past two to three months, empty sites along Karwar road in Hubballi have reportedly been converted into unauthorized garbage dumping grounds. Residents have pointed out that the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) has failed to take any strict action against those responsible for freely dumping waste in these areas.
Strategic Location Makes Problem More Severe
According to sources, the waste dumped near Rajanala and Bharat Mill Circle on Karwar road falls under HDMC Ward No. 56 and HDMC zonal-9. This area lies in the heart of the city and connects major roads including the Siddharudha Mutt, Dargha, old Hubballi and NH-4 road. The proximity to residential areas, commercial establishments and even a Congress party office has heightened concerns about public health and environmental degradation.
Residents Voice Frustration Over Municipal Inaction
Satish Mundewadi, a resident of Arvind Nagar, expressed deep concern about the deteriorating condition of empty sites along this road. "The waste is being dumped primarily in the evening and early morning hours. The corporation should take strict action and impose substantial fines on those found throwing garbage illegally," he urged.
Mohan Hiremani, a former HDMC corporator, revealed that residents from surrounding areas are contributing to the problem. "Large amounts of construction waste, including bricks, mud and mixed waste, are being discarded here. Despite raising complaints multiple times, no concrete action has been taken. The HDMC must immediately identify and penalize the perpetrators while arranging for prompt waste removal," he emphasized.
Municipal Corporation's Response and Cleanup Promise
While the HDMC has launched numerous drives to clean empty sites across the city, residents claim Karwar road has been neglected in these efforts. Santosh Yarangalli, executive engineer of HDMC's solid waste management department, has now assured that the garbage accumulation on Karwar road will be cleared at the earliest possible opportunity.
The situation highlights growing tensions between municipal authorities and citizens regarding urban waste management. With the dumping continuing unabated for months, local residents are demanding more proactive measures and regular monitoring to prevent such environmental violations in the future.
