Himachal CM Sukhu Directs War Footing Restoration After Heavy Snowfall
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Friday issued urgent directives to state government officials, calling for immediate and coordinated action to restore normalcy across various parts of Himachal Pradesh that have been severely impacted by heavy snowfall.
Priority on Essential Services and Emergency Access
Stressing the critical nature of the situation, Sukhu instructed all relevant departments to operate on a war footing. The primary objective is to ensure that essential services, which have been disrupted due to the snow, are restored at the earliest possible moment.
He gave clear and specific directions that roads leading to hospitals, health centres, and other emergency service institutions must be cleared on a priority basis. This measure is crucial to guarantee uninterrupted access to medical care for residents in affected areas.
Swift Deployment of Resources for Road Clearance
To minimize public hardship, the Chief Minister emphasized the need to deploy sufficient manpower and heavy machinery. The goal is to reopen blocked roads swiftly and efficiently, facilitating movement and reducing isolation in snowbound regions.
Sukhu also ordered the prompt restoration of power and water supply schemes in all impacted areas. He directed district administrations to remain on high alert and provide immediate assistance to residents wherever required, ensuring no community is left without support.
Ensuring Continuous Supply of Essential Commodities
The Department of Food and Civil Supplies, along with the State Civil Supplies Corporation, received instructions to take proactive steps. Their mandate is to ensure the continuous availability of foodgrains and other essential commodities in regions cut off by snow, preventing shortages and price hikes.
Additionally, all departments were directed to strictly adhere to safety guidelines issued by the State Disaster Management Authority, prioritizing public safety in all restoration efforts.
Positive Impacts on Agriculture and Tourism
Highlighting a silver lining, Sukhu noted that the recent rainfall and snowfall have brought much-needed relief to farmers and orchardists. This weather is expected to boost the rural economy by improving soil moisture and crop conditions.
He also extended a warm welcome to tourists, stating that the fresh snowfall is likely to enhance tourism activities across the state. This could provide an economic uplift during the winter season, benefiting local businesses and hospitality sectors.
Addressing Long-Term Environmental Concerns
Addressing broader environmental issues, Sukhu pointed towards the growing impact of climate change. He announced that the government has ordered detailed studies to incorporate environmental protection measures into future policies and development plans.
This initiative aims to ensure sustainable growth for the hill state, balancing development with ecological preservation in the face of changing weather patterns.
