Goa Government to Issue Ordinance for Basic Amenities in EHN Houses
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant made a significant announcement on Thursday. He stated that the Goa government will issue an ordinance within one month. This ordinance aims to provide water and electricity connections to houses allotted under the essential housing needs (EHN) scheme.
Addressing a Serious Issue
Sawant spoke about the matter during a session in Porvorim. He called it a serious issue that requires immediate attention. The chief minister explained that the government used to provide these connections under EHN. However, there have been delays and problems recently.
"Within a few days, we will issue an ordinance. We even have to amend the panchayat act. Within one month, I will come out with a solution," Sawant said. His statement came in response to concerns raised in the legislative assembly.
MLA Govind Gaude Raises Concerns
Priol MLA Govind Gaude brought this issue to the forefront during the zero hour. He highlighted the serious difficulties faced by beneficiaries of EHN houses across Goa. Gaude expressed concern that many allotted houses remain without basic amenities.
He specifically mentioned the lack of potable drinking water in several EHN houses. These houses have been allotted and occupied, yet they still wait for essential services. Gaude made a direct appeal to the ministers responsible for public works and power.
"I request both the minister for public works and minister for power to kindly intervene immediately," Gaude said. "Ensure time-bound clearance of pending files, and direct the concerned officers of the departments to provide basic civic amenities without further delay to all EHN housing beneficiaries."
Government's Commitment to Resolution
The chief minister's announcement shows the government's commitment to resolving this issue. Sawant acknowledged the need for both an ordinance and amendments to existing laws. The panchayat act requires changes to facilitate the provision of utilities.
This move aims to benefit numerous families living in EHN houses across the state. These houses serve economically weaker sections and those with essential housing needs. The lack of water and electricity connections creates daily hardships for residents.
The one-month timeline provides a clear deadline for action. Sawant's promise brings hope to many waiting for these basic services. The government now faces the task of implementing this ordinance effectively.
