Goa CM to Inaugurate New Police HQ in May 2025

Panaji: With the 2027 assembly elections in sight, chief minister Pramod Sawant said he will return in May next year to inaugurate the new police headquarters building, after laying the foundation stone on Thursday. The building is being built at a cost of Rs 45 crore through the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation.

Project Timeline and Commitment

The CM, who also holds the home portfolio, said that the project will be completed within a year. “The project for which we are laying the foundation stone, will be inaugurated by us. Once again I will definitely get the opportunity to come amidst you to inaugurate the project in May, once it is ready,” said Sawant.

Heritage and Modernity Combined

He said the project is a long-pending one, being planned for almost two decades now. “This new headquarters will bring a new revolution in the police department, which is in need of new infrastructure. The department has been operating from present headquarters for the last 60 years. The new building will be constructed with features of Goa’s heritage structures,” said Sawant.

The new building will be a modern structure with new equipment, said the CM. “It is not just about building infrastructure but providing significant technology to address cybercrime, traffic management, public safety, disaster response and citizen services. All facilities which are required will be made available in the new police headquarters. Small training halls and meeting halls will also be there,” Sawant added.

Strengthening Police Force

Goa police have recently acquired 97 two-wheelers, in a bid to expand policing to all areas, to help prevent crimes in touristic places. “Advancement is taking place in all areas, including in crime. We have started strengthening the various cells of the police department to reduce cyber crimes. Police have started using innovation and technology for the purpose,” said the CM.

Sawant said the repairs and renovation of all police station buildings from Canacona to Pernem have also been taken up. He also said the process of recruitment in the police department has been expedited and is now being carried out in a transparent and merit-based manner. “We will streamline the process further and recruit more personnel in the police department,” said Sawant.

Road Safety Measures

He said the state is also working on reducing road accidents in the state by correcting accident-prone zones. Stay updated with the latest Goa news.
