In a pioneering move for Uttar Pradesh, the Ghaziabad traffic police are set to receive much-needed relief from harsh weather conditions. The city is rolling out the installation of 20 state-of-the-art, solar-powered smart traffic booths at major intersections.
Phased Installation and Key Locations
The initiative will be implemented in phases. The first phase will see three booths installed on National Highway-9 within a week. Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Ziauddin Ahmad confirmed the initial locations: near Gaur Green Society, opposite Sector 62, and at Kanwani. Following this, 17 more booths will be set up at other busy junctions across the city.
Features Designed for Efficiency and Comfort
These innovative booths are equipped with solar panels, making them self-sufficient and eco-friendly. They are designed to protect personnel from the region's extreme climate—be it intense summer heat, heavy monsoon rains, or cold winter chills.
ACP Ahmad detailed the amenities each booth will house:
- A biometric-secured door for safety.
- A dedicated seating area for officers.
- Mobile charging ports.
- A public announcement system.
The cost for one such smart booth exceeds Rs 8 lakhs, with funding for the project being provided by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
More Than Just Shelter: A Hub for Traffic Management
Police Commissioner J Ravindra Goud emphasized that these booths will serve a strategic function beyond providing shelter. They will act as decentralized centers for real-time traffic monitoring and management.
"These booths are equipped with all necessary facilities to ensure professional, efficient policing," Commissioner Goud stated. The move is expected to enhance on-ground responsiveness and streamline traffic flow management in the rapidly growing city.
This project marks a significant step towards modernizing police infrastructure in Ghaziabad, focusing on both officer welfare and improved public service delivery.
