UIDAI Waives Aadhaar Biometric Update Fees for Children Aged 7-15
Free Aadhaar Biometric Update for Children: UIDAI Waiver

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a significant fee waiver for the mandatory biometric update of Aadhaar cards for children. This move is designed to simplify the process for millions of families across the country.

What is the New Fee Waiver?

Effective October 1, 2025, the UIDAI will waive all charges for the first Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU-1) for children. This waiver is specifically for children aged between 7 and 15 years and will be applicable for a period of one year.

Previously, a fee was associated with this update. The authority has now made both the first and second mandatory biometric updates free of cost. The first update is required when a child turns 5, and the second is needed at age 15. Following this one-year waiver period, the standard charge of Rs. 125 per update will be reinstated.

How to Update Your Child's Blue Aadhaar Card for Free

Updating your child's biometric data is a straightforward process. Parents or guardians need to visit the nearest Aadhaar Enrolment Centre or Aadhaar Seva Kendra. You can find the location of your nearest centre on the official UIDAI website.

The update process involves capturing the child's new photograph, fingerprints, and iris scans. These details are crucial as a child's biometric data changes significantly as they grow.

Documents Required for the Biometric Update

To complete the process smoothly, ensure you carry the following documents:

  • The child's existing Baal Aadhaar card (Blue Aadhaar card).
  • The Aadhaar card of the parent or guardian for verification purposes.
  • Any other original documents as may be requested by the centre officials.

This initiative by UIDAI aims to ensure that children's Aadhaar details remain accurate, which in turn facilitates easier access to various government and private services. Parents and guardians are encouraged to prioritize this update to ensure their children's documents are current and fully functional.
