Kerala's First New Model Aadhaar Seva Kendra Launched in Ernakulam
First New Model Aadhaar Seva Kendra Opens in Kochi

In a significant move to streamline citizen services, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has inaugurated its first new model Aadhaar Seva Kendra (ASK) in the state of Kerala. The centre was officially launched in the Kacheripady area of Ernakulam, Kochi, on Saturday.

A Boost for Transparent and Efficient Services

The new facility was inaugurated by District Collector Priyanka G. She emphasized that the core aim of this initiative is to make Aadhaar services more consumer-centric. The centre is designed to expedite processes and enhance transparency, directly addressing long-standing public concerns related to enrolment, data updates, and grievance resolution.

Priyanka highlighted Ernakulam's strategic importance as a hub for educational institutions and business centres, noting the heightened demand for efficient Aadhaar services in the region. The new ASK is expected to significantly reduce crowding at service points, a growing challenge amid rapid urbanization and population growth.

Expansion Plans and Key Services Offered

V Anni Joyce, the Deputy Director General of UIDAI's Bengaluru regional office, announced an ambitious expansion plan. She revealed that a similar Aadhaar Seva Kendra is scheduled to become operational in Thrissur by March of next year. Following this, the authority plans to establish such centres in all districts across the state.

The inaugural operations at the Kacheripady centre were initiated by Vinod Jacob John, Director of UIDAI's Thiruvananthapuram office. The honour of receiving the first token at the new facility went to Mark Wilson, a resident of Ernakulam.

The centre will offer a comprehensive suite of Aadhaar-related services, including:

  • New Aadhaar enrolment
  • Demographic and biometric data updates
  • Ordering of PVC Aadhaar cards
  • Grievance resolution
  • Appointment management and token distribution

Location and Future Implications

The new Aadhaar Seva Kendra is conveniently located at Kochery Chambers on Old Railway Station Road in Kacheripady, near the Income Tax office. This central location is expected to improve accessibility for residents across Ernakulam.

The launch of this centre marks a pivotal shift in UIDAI's service delivery model in Kerala, moving towards dedicated, full-service kendras that promise greater efficiency and user satisfaction. It sets a precedent for the rollout of similar citizen-centric infrastructure throughout the state, aiming to bridge the gap between administrative services and the public's needs.
