DTC Announces Special 15-Day Electric Bus Service for Surajkund International Crafts Mela
In a significant move to enhance visitor convenience and promote sustainable transportation, the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has unveiled a special 15-day bus service dedicated to the Surajkund International Crafts Mela. This initiative, running from January 31 to February 15, aims to provide seamless last-mile connectivity while championing eco-friendly mobility solutions.
Eco-Friendly Connectivity from Metro to Mela Grounds
DTC will deploy two state-of-the-art nine-metre electric buses to shuttle passengers between Southeast Delhi's Badarpur Border Metro station and the Surajkund Mela Ground. This route spans approximately four kilometres, offering a reliable and affordable alternative to private vehicles. The electric buses are designed to reduce carbon emissions and traffic congestion, aligning with Delhi's broader environmental goals.
Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh emphasized the importance of this service, stating, "Surajkund Mela is a proud cultural celebration that attracts visitors from across India and abroad. Our priority is to provide safe, reliable, and affordable public transport so that families and tourists can travel without inconvenience." He added that the dedicated DTC bus service ensures seamless connectivity while promoting clean and eco-friendly mobility.
Route Details and Operational Coordination
To facilitate smooth inter-state operations, DTC is coordinating closely with the Haryana Transport Department, as the mela ground falls under Haryana's jurisdiction. The bus route will include key stops such as:
- Badarpur Metro station
- Badarpur Border
- Rajiv Gandhi Stadium
- Prahladpur
- Surajkund Chowk
- Manav Rachna School
This strategic route is designed to maximize accessibility and minimize travel time for attendees.
Frequent Service and Passenger Convenience
The bus service will operate at frequent intervals throughout the day to accommodate the expected influx of visitors. From Badarpur Border Metro station to Surajkund Mela, buses will depart between 10:00 AM and 2:35 PM, with intervals of 20 minutes. In the return direction, buses from Surajkund Mela to Badarpur Border Metro station will commence at 10:20 AM.
Officials have assured that a detailed bus chart with precise timings will be prominently displayed at the metro station, bus stops, and the mela premises. This measure is intended to keep passengers well-informed and ensure a hassle-free travel experience.
