Delhi PWD Deploys QRTs in All 13 Districts for Monsoon

In a significant step to enhance emergency response during storms and the monsoon season, the Public Works Department (PWD) has deployed officials to form Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) across all 13 districts of Delhi. These teams are tasked with addressing incidents such as uprooted trees, blocked roads, and other weather-related disruptions caused by heavy rain and strong winds.

QRTs Under DDMA Framework

The QRTs have been constituted under the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), with the PWD deputing 39 assistant engineers as team leaders. According to officials, the teams will operate in three eight-hour shifts to ensure round-the-clock response during high-risk periods, particularly during the monsoon season. This arrangement will remain in effect until further orders.

Immediate Operationalization

Following directions from the Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue)-cum-Divisional Commissioner, each district has been instructed to operationalize QRTs with immediate effect under the DDMA framework. The official order states, "These teams shall be responsible for ensuring prompt response to emergencies arising due to fallen and uprooted trees, facilitating their removal."

Officials emphasized that the initiative aims to reduce response time during extreme weather events, which often lead to traffic congestion, road blockages, and safety hazards across the city. The deployment is a proactive measure to mitigate the impact of monsoon-related disruptions and ensure public safety.
