Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Greenlights Rs 728 Crore Infrastructure Push for Trans-Yamuna Region
In a significant move aimed at transforming the civic landscape of Delhi, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday approved a series of projects totaling Rs 728 crore. This substantial investment is specifically targeted at boosting infrastructure in the trans-Yamuna part of the city, an area that has historically faced developmental challenges.
Addressing Long-Standing Infrastructure Deficits
The approval was granted during a meeting of the Trans Yamuna Area Development Board, which was chaired by Gupta herself. Emphasizing the government's commitment, the Chief Minister stated that there is no shortage of funds for essential works such as road construction, drainage systems, and basic amenities in this region. The trans-Yamuna area, home to approximately one-third of Delhi's population, has often been criticized for lacking the necessary infrastructure compared to other parts of the capital.
Development Minister Kapil Mishra highlighted the urgency of these initiatives, noting that the area has been deprived of development despite a rising population and increasing needs. He affirmed, "Concrete efforts are now being made to correct this imbalance. Infrastructure development in the area would be carried out at the same level as seen in other parts of Delhi."
Focus Areas and Strategic Priorities
The approved projects will place special emphasis on several key sectors to ensure comprehensive development. According to officials, the focus will be on:
- Roads: Improving connectivity and repairing damaged routes.
- Drainage: Enhancing systems to prevent waterlogging, especially ahead of the monsoon season.
- Public Amenities: Upgrading basic facilities for residents.
- Tourism-Related Works: Boosting local attractions and economic opportunities.
This multi-faceted approach aims to elevate the trans-Yamuna area to the status of Delhi's developed regions, fostering better living conditions and economic growth.
Political Commitment and Collaborative Efforts
The board meeting, held at the Delhi Secretariat, saw the participation of key stakeholders, including its chairman and Gandhi Nagar MLA Arvinder Singh Lovely. Chief Minister Gupta took the opportunity to criticize the previous administration, alleging that during their tenure, the board was rendered completely inactive, leading to a "near-total halt" in development work. She assured that all recommendations from the Board would be executed without financial hindrances.
In line with this, Gupta instructed officials to prioritize the speedy resolution of issues related to damaged roads, drainage, and waterlogging, particularly in preparation for the upcoming monsoon. Lovely echoed the importance of collective effort, stating that proposals submitted by all MLAs for the trans-Yamuna area are crucial. He emphasized that collaborative initiatives will play a pivotal role in transforming the basic infrastructure landscape of this densely populated region.
This approval marks a proactive step by the Delhi government to address urban disparities and ensure equitable development across the city, promising a brighter future for trans-Yamuna residents.
