Delhi Government to Deploy 500 New Electric Buses, Unveils Rs 400 Crore Development Plan
In a significant push for sustainable urban mobility, the Delhi government will introduce 500 new electric buses on the capital's roads this Sunday. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta made the announcement while laying the foundation stone for development works valued at Rs 400 crore in the Matiala constituency of West Delhi.
Expanding Electric Fleet to Lead National Transition
Chief Minister Gupta emphasized that Delhi has already established itself as the city with the highest number of electric buses in India. With the addition of these 500 new vehicles, the capital's e-bus fleet will expand to 4,000 units. The government has set an ambitious target to increase this number to 11,000 electric buses within the next two years, ensuring that eco-friendly public transport reaches every corner of the city.
"Our commitment to green mobility is unwavering. These electric buses are a crucial step towards reducing pollution and building a sustainable future for Delhi," Gupta stated during the event.
Focus on Rural Development in Matiala Constituency
The development projects in Matiala, one of Delhi's largest and predominantly rural assembly constituencies, underscore the government's focus on inclusive growth. Gupta highlighted that her administration has allocated the maximum development funds to Matiala, aiming to revitalize its agrarian areas, unauthorized colonies, and slum clusters.
"Without the development of these rural pockets, Delhi cannot truly become a Viksit Delhi. The previous government had paralyzed the rural development board, which we have revived, sanctioning projects worth Rs 1,700 crore," she asserted.
Political Collaboration and Future Goals
Gupta praised West Delhi MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat and Matiala MLA Sandeep Sehrawat for their dedicated efforts in advancing development works in the region. She noted that the BJP government, in its first year in power, has actively worked to address long-standing issues facing Delhi, from infrastructure to environmental sustainability.
The rollout of electric buses and the Matiala development initiatives are part of a broader strategy to enhance public welfare and urban infrastructure. As Delhi moves towards its goal of 11,000 electric buses, these efforts are expected to significantly cut carbon emissions and improve air quality, aligning with national clean energy objectives.
