World Consumer Day Celebrated in Kushalnagar with Focus on Rights and Duties
In a significant event aimed at empowering citizens, World Consumer Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at the Government Degree College in Kushalnagar. The ceremony took place on Thursday within the Junior College premises, organized jointly by the district administration, the food, civil supplies and consumer affairs department, the district consumer commission, and the District Consumer Information Center, Kushalnagar.
Officials Emphasize Consumer Awareness and Vigilance
Assistant Commissioner Nitin Chakki addressed the gathering, highlighting that every individual in society functions as a consumer in various capacities. He stressed the critical importance of being well-informed about consumer rights and urged people to exercise caution during all purchasing activities. His remarks underscored the need for proactive consumer education to prevent exploitation.
Senior Advocate M.A. Niranjan echoed these sentiments, calling for a balanced understanding of both consumer rights and corresponding duties. He emphasized that awareness is the first step toward effective consumer protection.
Practical Advice and Redressal Mechanisms
Gaurammanni, a member of the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, provided practical guidance to consumers. He advised ensuring proper weight and quality when buying ingredients and insisted on obtaining receipts for all transactions. Furthermore, he assured that the commission is committed to conducting swift inquiries into complaints to ensure timely redressal, thereby strengthening consumer confidence in the system.
Initiatives and Digital Market Awareness
A.A. Changappa, President of the District Consumer Information Center in Kushalnagar, revealed ongoing efforts to foster consumer awareness from a young age. Consumer clubs have been established in 52 high schools across the district, actively working to educate students about their rights. Additionally, he pointed out the growing influence of digital markets in today's fast-paced lifestyle and urged consumers to remain vigilant in online transactions to avoid potential fraud.
M. Bheemaraya, Deputy Director of the Food Department, reinforced the message by stating that comprehensive protection of consumer interests is paramount. He explained that awareness campaigns are specifically designed to shield consumers from deceptive practices and ensure fair trade.
Exhibition and Distinguished Attendees
The event also featured an informative exhibition organized by the Department of Law and Metrology, showcasing tools and resources for consumer protection. The ceremony was graced by several dignitaries, including Dr. Venkatesh Prasanna, Principal of Government First Grade College; Rama, Assistant Director of the Food Department; Professor Naveen Kumar; and various food inspectors, all of whom contributed to the success of the program.
