The Municipal Corporation (MC) of Chandigarh has ramped up its campaign against the improper disposal of garbage in public spaces. In a significant enforcement push over the last week, civic authorities have penalized 16 residents for flouting established solid waste management norms.
City-Wide Inspections Uncover Violations
Acting on directives from MC Commissioner Amit Kumar, sanitary inspectors conducted surprise checks across various parts of the city. The drive aimed to identify and take action against individuals illegally dumping household and commercial waste. The inspections were not confined to one area but spanned multiple residential and commercial localities.
Evidence from Trash Leads to Fines
Officials adopted a meticulous approach to trace the culprits. They sifted through the illegally dumped waste to find clues that could lead them to the violators. Items like bills, documents, and identity proofs recovered from the garbage piles became key evidence. This information was then used to track down the responsible individuals and issue formal challans against them under the relevant Municipal Solid Waste Rules.
The challans were issued for violations reported from several key locations, including:
- Residential houses in Sectors 8, 11, 15, 16, 18, and 37.
- A shop-cum-flat located in Sector 15.
A Clear Message for Civic Responsibility
This intensified drive sends a strong message about the civic body's commitment to maintaining cleanliness and enforcing waste management regulations. By holding individuals accountable through fines, the MC hopes to deter others from littering in public places. The action underscores that violations will not go unnoticed and that the administration is using proactive measures to ensure the city's hygiene standards are upheld.
