In a significant move to bolster public infrastructure, the Road Committee of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has given its unanimous approval to several key development proposals. The decisions were made during the committee's monthly meeting held on Thursday under the chairmanship of Councillor Dalip Sharma.
Three Projects Get Green Signal
The committee reviewed rough cost estimates for three distinct projects aimed at strengthening civic amenities for residents. After thorough discussions, all proposals were cleared, marking a proactive step towards urban improvement. The meeting saw the presence of committee members Naresh Panchal, Manaur, Gurcharanjit Singh, Suman Devi, Rajinder Singh, and Maheshinder Singh Siddhu, along with senior municipal officials and engineers.
New Community Kitchen in Sector 38 West
The first and most notable project involves the construction of a new kitchen at the Sector 38 West community centre. This initiative comes in direct compliance with directions from the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The existing kitchen will be dismantled to make way for the new facility, which is estimated to cost approximately Rs 16.7 lakh. The project is designed to significantly enhance the community infrastructure, providing better resources for residents and local gatherings.
Upgrading Waste Segregation in Manimajra
A second crucial proposal that received the committee's nod focuses on improving waste management in Manimajra. The plan entails laying a cement concrete floor at various locations within the Motor Market. This upgrade, with an estimated cost of Rs 14.4 lakh, is intended to support smoother and more organised waste segregation activities. A stable and clean surface will facilitate efficient handling and sorting of waste, contributing to cleaner neighbourhoods.
Renovation of Councillor Room in Sector 33
The third project approved is the special repair of the area municipal councillor's room located in the Sector 33 community centre. This renovation, pegged at an estimated cost of Rs 5.52 lakh, aims to ensure better facilities for public service delivery. An improved workspace for the councillor will enhance efficiency in addressing citizen grievances and administering local governance.
Emphasis on Timely Execution
During the meeting, Chairperson Dalip Sharma placed strong emphasis on the timely execution of all approved projects. The focus remains on ensuring that residents reap the benefits of these upgrades at the earliest and that the city's civic infrastructure is strengthened systematically. The collective approval of projects totalling Rs 36.62 lakh reflects the committee's commitment to addressing practical community needs and improving the quality of urban life in Chandigarh.
