Chandigarh Unveils Digital Parking System to Revolutionize Urban Mobility
In a significant move toward enhancing smart and citizen-centric urban transportation, the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh officially launched the innovative 'MC One Pass' digital parking system on Tuesday. The inauguration took place at a key parking site in Sector 22, marking a pivotal step in modernizing the city's parking infrastructure.
Mayor Inaugurates System with Focus on Transparency and Affordability
Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla inaugurated the system, emphasizing its role in simplifying parking processes while boosting transparency, affordability, and digital governance. Addressing attendees, she highlighted that the MC One Pass is designed to transform Chandigarh's parking network into a seamless, cashless, and fully digital solution, catering to both residents and daily commuters.
Affordable Monthly Passes for Regular Users
The scheme introduces cost-effective monthly parking passes, priced at:
- Rs 250 for two-wheelers
- Rs 500 for four-wheelers
This initiative aims to provide a lower-cost alternative for regular users, improving ease of access and reducing financial burdens. Additionally, MC Chief Amit Kumar noted that the system extends to commercial four-wheelers with yellow number plates, broadening its accessibility to a diverse range of vehicle users.
Enhancing Parking Management and Transparency
Kumar explained that the initiative is geared toward improving transparency, minimizing manual interventions, and ensuring more organized parking management. By digitizing the process, the civic body seeks to eliminate inefficiencies and foster a user-friendly environment.
Wide Validity and Easy Access Across Chandigarh
Implemented with support from Bank of Baroda, the MC One Pass will be valid at all Municipal Corporation-managed parking sites, including:
- Surface Parking opposite Elante Mall
- Parking sites in Sectors 17, 22, and 35
- Lake Parking
- Sector 17 multi-level parking
- Other designated locations
To obtain the pass, citizens are not required to visit any office. Instead, they can generate it by scanning a QR code available on official websites, at parking sites, and through newspaper notices, ensuring a hassle-free experience.
Future Expansion Plans for Uniform Digital Experience
Reaffirming the civic body's commitment to commuter convenience, Kumar added that the system will be expanded to more parking locations in phases. This phased approach aims to deliver a uniform and digitally enabled parking experience across Chandigarh, aligning with broader smart city goals.
