In a significant development for urban infrastructure and law enforcement modernization, Punjab Governor and Chandigarh UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria laid the foundation stones for two upcoming police stations on Tuesday. The new facilities, strategically located at IT Park and Mauli Jagran, are designed as environmentally sustainable green buildings that will incorporate advanced features like rainwater harvesting systems, solar power generation, and energy-efficient lighting solutions.
Project Specifications and Infrastructure Details
According to official statements, the IT Park police station will be constructed on a 0.36-acre plot with a built-up area spanning 19,832 square feet. The estimated project cost for this facility stands at approximately Rs 9.81 crore. Meanwhile, the Mauli Jagran police station will occupy a larger 0.78-acre site with a substantial built-up area of 41,227 square feet, requiring an investment of Rs 19.51 crore. The Mauli Jagran structure will feature 52 rooms and comprehensive fire-safety systems to ensure maximum security and operational efficiency.
Comprehensive Facilities and Citizen-Centric Design
Both police stations have been planned with extensive amenities to enhance public service delivery and operational effectiveness. The facilities will include dedicated women's help desks, separate lock-up facilities and barracks for male and female detainees, specialized interrogation rooms, secure malkhana (evidence storage) areas, armouries for weapon storage, conference halls for meetings, staff canteens, adequate parking spaces, and barrier-free access provisions to ensure accessibility for persons with disabilities.

During the foundation-laying ceremony, Governor Kataria emphasized that these projects align perfectly with the administration's ambitious "Future-Ready Chandigarh 2030 and Beyond" vision. He highlighted how the new police stations reflect a strong commitment to modern, technology-driven, and citizen-centric policing approaches that prioritize both environmental sustainability and public safety. The Governor also took the opportunity to address pressing social concerns, calling for intensified measures to combat drug abuse, which he identified as one of the region's most serious challenges requiring immediate attention and collaborative action.
