Bhojpur District Magistrate Tanai Sultania on Saturday issued strict directives to district health officials to immediately halt the practice of unnecessary referrals from Ara Sadar Hospital and other government health centers. The order came during a review meeting of the health department chaired by the DM, aimed at strengthening the district healthcare system and ensuring better treatment facilities for patients.
Referral Guidelines and Local Treatment Emphasis
Taking a firm stand, the DM instructed that doctors must clearly specify the reason for any referral on the slip and indicate which medical facility is unavailable, necessitating the transfer. Emphasizing local treatment, the DM directed that the maximum number of patients should be treated within the district instead of being sent elsewhere. This move is expected to reduce the burden on patients and their families, who often face financial and logistical hardships due to unnecessary referrals.
Major Upgrades for Healthcare Infrastructure
Announcing major upgrades, the DM said that Ara Sadar Hospital will be developed into a super-specialty hospital, while sub-divisional and referral hospitals will be upgraded to specialist-level facilities. Officials have been asked to identify shortages of manpower and resources within three days and submit a detailed proposal for prompt action. This initiative aims to enhance the quality of healthcare services available locally and reduce the need for patients to travel to other districts for advanced treatment.
Crackdown on Middlemen
In a crackdown on alleged middlemen operating within hospital premises, the DM ordered immediate identification of such agents and directed that FIRs be registered against them without delay. Sub-divisional officers and the deputy development commissioner have been tasked with ensuring strict enforcement. This action is intended to eliminate corrupt practices that exploit patients and undermine trust in the healthcare system.
Strengthening Public Confidence
Stressing effective use of existing healthcare infrastructure, the DM urged officials to work with sensitivity to strengthen public confidence in government health services. The review meeting also discussed measures to improve patient care, including better management of resources and enhanced coordination among health facilities. The DM's directives are part of a broader effort to reform the district's healthcare system and ensure that residents receive timely and quality medical attention.
