Bengaluru Ejipura Flyover Project Gains Momentum with Hospital Land Pact
In a significant development for Bengaluru's infrastructure, Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) chief commissioner M Maheshwar Rao has issued directives to expedite the construction of the Ejipura flyover. On Monday, Rao instructed officials to immediately mark the required land at St John's Medical College Hospital and commence work on five portal piers, a crucial step in the flyover's structural framework.
Resolving Land Hurdles Through Stakeholder Collaboration
The directive followed a productive meeting involving traffic police and hospital representatives, aimed at addressing land-related obstacles that had been delaying the project. After thorough discussions, St John's Medical College Hospital management agreed to temporarily allocate a small portion of its land for the construction. This area is located on the left side of Ejipura Main Road when approaching from Kendriya Sadan, specifically along the footpath adjoining the hospital's compound wall.
Rao emphasized the urgency of the situation, ordering engineers and contractors to demarcate the designated space and initiate construction without delay. To ensure safety and minimize disruption, barricades will be installed around the work zone, and a dedicated area will be set aside for storing construction materials. Importantly, the hospital's compound wall will be fully reconstructed once the project is completed, restoring the premises to their original state.
Timeline and Technical Progress of the Flyover
Speaking about the project's timeline, Rao expressed confidence in meeting the deadline. "We aim to complete the flyover by June," he stated. "Most landing and alignment challenges are manageable, and we are making steady progress." He provided detailed insights into the technical aspects, noting that out of the 762 segmental girders required for the flyover, 170 have already been cast. With a current production rate of 45 girders per month, the remaining work is expected to be finished within two to three months, potentially by July at the latest.
Rao further explained that extensive consultations with all stakeholders have been conducted, and given the complexities of land acquisition, there are no viable technical alternatives to the current plan. The flyover's design, including its strategic turn onto the main road, will be executed with meticulous care to ensure structural integrity and traffic efficiency.
