In a significant move to bolster the infrastructure development of Andhra Pradesh's capital city, Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand has issued directives to expedite the re-routing of existing 400 kV and 220 kV Extra High Tension (EHT) transmission lines passing through the core capital area of Amaravati. This initiative comes in response to the rapid urban development taking place in the region, necessitating swift and coordinated action to ensure unhindered progress.
High-Level Review Meeting
The Chief Secretary conducted a detailed review meeting with key officials, including APCRDA Commissioner K. Kanna Babu, JMD Transco G. Surya Sai Praveenchand, MD AGICL S.V.R. Srinivas, CMD APCPDCL P. Pulla Reddy, Directors of Transco J.V. Rao and A.K.V. Bhaskar, Chief Engineer Sudheevan Kumar, Murali Krishna Yadav, and other stakeholders. During this session, various planning and field-level issues were discussed to address bottlenecks and streamline the execution process.
Emphasis on Timely Completion
Vijayanand emphasised that the re-routing work must be carried out in a swift, coordinated, and time-bound manner. He stressed the importance of organising regular coordination meetings with concerned departments and agencies to facilitate seamless implementation. The Chief Secretary highlighted that necessary corrective measures should be taken promptly wherever bottlenecks or implementation issues arise, ensuring that the projects stay on track.
Government-Level Monitoring
Officials were informed that these works are being closely monitored at the highest government levels, including regular reviews by Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu. This oversight underscores the projects' significance as part of the government's flagship Amaravati development programme, which aims to transform the capital city into a modern urban hub.
Project Details and Alignment
The re-routing of the 400 kV and 220 kV transmission lines is being undertaken as a deposit-funded work, in line with the approved planning framework of APCRDA. This approach follows extensive consultations with all stakeholders to ensure alignment with the master plan. The revised alignment has been strategically planned to bypass core development zones, instead aligning with designated green buffers and major arterial road corridors. This careful planning aims to minimise disruptions while supporting sustainable urban growth.
Instructions for Systematic Execution
Vijayanand instructed officials to speed up the execution of works in a planned and systematic manner, strictly adhering to approved schedules. He directed APCRDA and Transco to ensure that all works are completed as per timelines, with regular progress updates provided to maintain transparency and accountability.
The Chief Secretary reiterated that the government is giving special priority and focused attention to the Amaravati development projects. He called for continuous field-level monitoring, close coordination among departments, and timely completion of the re-routing works to support the overall development of the capital city. This proactive approach is expected to pave the way for enhanced infrastructure and accelerated growth in Amaravati, reinforcing its status as a key urban centre in Andhra Pradesh.
