Ahmedabad Civic Chief Inspects Makarba ROB, July 31 Deadline

Ahmedabad Municipal Commissioner Banchha Nidhi Pani conducted a site visit on Monday to the four-lane railway overbridge (ROB) under construction at Makarba to review the progress of the project. During the inspection, the civic chief issued strict directives to ensure high-quality standards and expedite the work to meet a firm deadline of July 31.

Strict Deadline and Traffic Management

The commissioner ordered officials to implement effective traffic management systems to ensure smooth vehicle movement and minimize public inconvenience in the surrounding areas. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has already accelerated the infrastructure project, recently completing the critical launching work of 12 steel composite girders.

Connectivity Boost for West Ahmedabad

Once operational, the Makarba ROB will significantly improve connectivity in West Ahmedabad, creating a seamless link between Makarba, Vejalpur Corporate Road, and the SG Highway. The bridge is expected to completely eliminate the severe traffic jams that currently paralyze local motorists due to long waiting times at the active railway crossing.

The mega project is being executed via a sanctioned tender of Rs 70.7 crore against an initial approved estimate of Rs 87.3 crore. Spanning 636.9 meters in length, the four-lane overbridge is being constructed on a 40-meter-wide road connecting Torrent Power Makarba in Vejalpur to Corporate Road and the SG Highway. The final structure will feature a total width of 16.4 meters, including a spacious 15.5-meter carriageway to handle heavy traffic flow.

The commissioner emphasized that the project must be completed on time to provide relief to commuters. The AMC is monitoring the work closely to ensure all quality parameters are met. The Makarba ROB is a key infrastructure project aimed at easing congestion in one of Ahmedabad's busiest corridors.
