43 Power Projects Worth Rs 3.02 Lakh Crore Commissioned via PM's PRAGATI Platform
43 Power Projects Worth Rs 3.02 Lakh Crore Commissioned

In a significant boost to India's energy infrastructure, a total of 43 major power sector projects, with a combined worth of Rs 3.02 lakh crore, have been successfully commissioned after being reviewed under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's PRAGATI platform. Official data confirms that these projects were completed as of December 31, 2025.

Project Breakdown and Leading Contributors

The reviewed projects are part of a larger portfolio of 53 power initiatives valued at a staggering Rs 4.12 lakh crore. This portfolio includes a diverse mix of 27 transmission projects, 14 thermal power projects, nine hydro projects, and three coal mine projects.

Leading the execution charge is the state-owned Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL), which has commissioned 20 projects. It is closely followed by NTPC with 14 projects. Other key contributors include NHPC, NEEPCO, THDC, and Sterlite, each completing two projects. One significant transmission project in Uttar Pradesh has also been wrapped up.

Advanced Monitoring Drives Timely Completion

The Pro-Active Governance And Timely Implementation (PRAGATI) framework, launched in 2015, involves multi-level monitoring, including direct oversight by the Prime Minister and the Union Cabinet Secretary. This high-level intervention has been crucial in addressing chronic delays that plague the power sector.

Officials highlighted that power projects typically face hurdles such as:

  • Land acquisition and environmental clearances.
  • Rehabilitation and resettlement (R&R) issues.
  • Fuel linkage and equipment supply delays.
  • Right-of-way (RoW) challenges for transmission lines.
  • Geological surprises in hydropower projects.

The PRAGATI-led monitoring has effectively minimized inter-departmental bottlenecks, pushing several long-stalled generation and transmission projects toward completion.

Broader Impact and Future Pipeline

The success of this focused review extends beyond the 53 projects. The broader PRAGATI ecosystem has reviewed 237 power projects worth Rs 10.53 lakh crore, all of which are now operational. Furthermore, an additional 108 power sector projects worth around Rs 6 lakh crore are currently under construction and remain under the platform's multi-tiered monitoring system.

Regarding the remaining 10 projects from the PM-reviewed batch, worth about Rs 1.1 lakh crore, officials confirmed they are in advanced stages of completion. Entities like PGCIL, NTPC, NHPC, THDC, and Sterlite are each handling two of these ongoing projects.

The timely execution facilitated by the PRAGATI platform has led to enhanced power availability, improved grid reliability, and better utilisation of national resources, marking a substantial step forward in India's energy security and infrastructure development.
