West Bengal CEO Dismisses Mamata Banerjee's 'Baseless' Strongroom Claims
West Bengal CEO Rejects Mamata's Strongroom Allegations

The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal has dismissed Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's allegations of irregularities at strongrooms as completely 'baseless'. In a firm rebuttal, the CEO stated that there is round-the-clock CCTV surveillance of all strongrooms, ensuring complete transparency and security of the electoral process.

Allegations by TMC

The Trinamool Congress (TMC), led by Mamata Banerjee, had raised serious concerns over the handling of ballot boxes and EVMs. Party leader Kunal Ghosh alleged that CCTV footage showed unauthorized individuals opening ballot boxes inside a strongroom in Kolkata, without the presence of party stakeholders. The TMC also claimed that sealed ballots were opened by the BJP, accusing the ruling party at the Centre of electoral malpractice.

CEO's Response

State Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Agarwal categorically rejected these allegations. He stated, 'Anyone can level any allegations. Where did tampering take place? CAPF is deployed there. Everything is sealed. Three-layer security is in place.' The CEO emphasized that the strongrooms are under constant monitoring and that no unauthorized activity has occurred.

Security Measures in Place

The CEO detailed the security protocols:

  • Round-the-clock CCTV surveillance with recorded footage.
  • Deployment of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) at all strongrooms.
  • Three-layer security including physical locks, seals, and electronic monitoring.
  • Strict access control allowing only authorized personnel.

Political Reactions

The TMC has released videos and statements to back their claims, alleging that the BJP attempted to manipulate the electoral process. The party has demanded a thorough investigation and action against those responsible. Meanwhile, the CEO has called for evidence to be submitted officially rather than through media channels.

The Election Commission has reiterated its commitment to free and fair elections, stating that all procedures are being followed as per guidelines. The controversy has added tension to the already high-stakes West Bengal assembly elections, with both parties trading accusations.
