In a move to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of voter list preparation, Varanasi's District Magistrate and District Election Officer, Satyendra Kumar, carried out a surprise inspection on Thursday. The visit, conducted on the directions of the Election Commission of India, targeted the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in the city.
Focus on Election Revision Progress
The district magistrate's first stop was the Cutting Memorial Intermediate College. Here, he closely examined the feeding and mapping work of enumeration forms, which is a critical part of the SIR process. Kumar obtained detailed, booth-wise updates on the progress of these tasks. He personally visited various classrooms to interact with the personnel on the ground, gathering firsthand information about the challenges and status of the work.
Issuing clear instructions, Kumar directed the officers to ensure all SIR-related work is completed before the deadline of December 11. He emphasized the need for special vigilance during the form-filling and subsequent verification processes to maintain the integrity of the electoral roll. Later, he moved to Arya Mahila Inter College to observe the progress of the SIR work there as well.
Cultural Interlude at Poetry Conference
During his visit to Arya Mahila Inter College, Kumar also took time to inspect a ward-level competition of the Kashi MP Children's Poetry Conference-2025. The event showcased young literary talent from the region. Three selected students from the college recited poems for the district magistrate. Their compositions touched upon themes deeply connected to the cultural fabric of the area, including the essence of Kashi (Varanasi), the sacred Ganga river, and tales of valour of historical heroes.
Ensuring Electoral Integrity
This surprise inspection underscores the administration's proactive approach to the crucial pre-election revision work. The Special Intensive Revision exercise is a foundational step in preparing accurate voter lists, a cornerstone of free and fair elections. By setting a firm deadline and stressing vigilance, the district election machinery aims to minimize errors and ensure that every eligible voter is correctly enrolled. The combined focus on administrative diligence and cultural engagement reflects the multifaceted role of district authorities in the historic city of Varanasi.
