UP Voter List Revision Extended: New Deadline March 6, Final Roll April 10
UP Voter List Deadline Extended to March 6, Final Roll April 10

Election Commission Extends Uttar Pradesh Voter List Revision Deadline by One Month

Lucknow: In a significant development, the Election Commission of India has granted a one-month extension for filing claims and objections against the draft electoral roll of Uttar Pradesh. The draft roll was published on January 6, 2026, as part of the second phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.

Revised Timelines and New Publication Date

The final electoral rolls for the state will now be officially published on April 10, 2026, instead of the originally scheduled date of March 6. This decision comes in response to a substantial surge in claims, objections, and correction requests submitted during the initial month-long window that commenced after the draft publication.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Navdeep Rinwa provided detailed clarifications regarding the revised schedule. He emphasized that the two extended dates serve distinct purposes within the electoral revision process.

"While March 6 is the new deadline for citizens to file their claims and objections, March 27 marks the final date for completing decisions on notices issued for mapping-related discrepancies," Rinwa stated. Both these critical processes will culminate in the publication of the final, updated voter roll on April 10.

Addressing Mapping Discrepancies on a Massive Scale

The CEO revealed that a staggering 3.26 crore electors fall into the categories of 'no mapping' or 'logical discrepancy'. Mapping refers to the linkage of current voter entries with the final 2003 electoral roll.

Discrepancies include mismatched parental details, incorrect serial linkages, or statistically improbable age gaps between voters and their mapped family members. So far, notices have been generated for 2.37 crore voters, with 86.27 lakh already served. Hearings have been completed for 30.3 lakh cases.

To ensure thorough resolution, the deadline for the final disposal of these mapping cases has been extended from February 27 to March 27. This extension provides electoral registration officers additional time to collect necessary documents, conduct hearings, and pass appropriate orders.

Background and Application Statistics

The enumeration phase of the SIR began on November 4, 2025, leading to the draft roll's release on January 6. Originally, the claims and objections period was set to conclude on February 6. During this window, eligible voters could:

  • Apply for name inclusion using Form 6
  • Seek deletion or raise objections via Form 7
  • Request corrections through Form 8

Following a meeting with recognized national and state political parties on January 27, the Election Commission approved the one-month extension, moving the deadline to March 6.

Providing concrete figures, Rinwa shared that between January 6 and February 4, the state received:

  • 37,80,414 Form 6 applications for new inclusions
  • 82,684 Form 7 applications for objections or deletions
  • 1,073 Form 6A applications from overseas electors

The inflow of Form 6 applications has shown a steady increase, with February 5 recording the highest single-day intake of 3,51,745 forms.

Additionally, the state has processed 9,50,498 Form 8 applications. This form is used for a wide range of updates, including corrections in name, age, gender, address, relationship details, photographs, changes due to relocation, recording disability status for poll-day assistance, and requests for replacement voter ID cards.

Facilities for Voters and Official Appeal

To assist citizens during this extended revision period, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will be available at polling stations on all working days between 10 am and 12 noon. BLOs will carry essential documents, including:

  1. The draft electoral roll
  2. The list of unmapped voters
  3. The list of voters with discrepancies
  4. The ASDDR list (comprising electors marked absent, shifted, dead, duplicate, or those who refused to sign during enumeration)

Voters can also verify their details online through the CEO Uttar Pradesh website and the Election Commission of India's dedicated voter services portals.

CEO Navdeep Rinwa issued a special appeal to women, youth, and first-time voters, urging them to meticulously review their entries and ensure timely application submission. He reassured the public that no eligible voter's name would be removed from the list without due notice and a proper hearing, underscoring the commission's commitment to an inclusive and accurate electoral process.
