Political parties in Uttar Pradesh have launched massive mobilization efforts using war rooms, WhatsApp groups and dedicated helplines to safeguard their voter bases during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The Election Commission initiated this crucial exercise on November 4, with the updated rolls set to determine the electoral landscape for the crucial 2027 Assembly elections.
BJP's Micro-Level Strategy
The Bharatiya Janata Party has implemented a comprehensive ground-level strategy, having identified Booth-Level Agents for all 1.62 lakh polling stations across the state. According to party sources, the BJP has already submitted its authorized BLA lists for 205 of Uttar Pradesh's 403 Assembly constituencies to the Election Commission.
The party has established a multi-tiered monitoring system with elected representatives serving as "booth pravasis" at each polling station for supervision and issue resolution. Each Assembly constituency will host a dedicated BJP war room to oversee BLA activities, while party workers have been deployed to assist voters with enumeration form completion.
A sophisticated reporting mechanism ensures daily updates from BLAs, with war room staff collecting details including photographs, application numbers and contact information of voters requiring assistance. The party has also created "Shakti Kendras" covering every five polling booths, where district office-bearers will physically monitor BLA operations.
Opposition Parties Counter Measures
The Samajwadi Party, which has repeatedly raised concerns about electoral roll discrepancies, is closely monitoring the revision process. "We will keep a close eye on every update and ensure that no ineligible people feature in the updated rolls," emphasized a senior SP leader.
The Akhilesh Yadav-led party has developed a dedicated website portal where district presidents must daily upload BLA appointment details and work progress. The SP is exercising extreme caution in BLA selection, seeking committed workers with thorough knowledge of their local booths. The party plans to establish helpline numbers at block, district and Assembly levels to assist voters with form completion challenges.
In a significant move, the SP has appointed "matdaan prabharis" (election in-charges) in districts like Muzaffarnagar to guide and supervise BLAs. Party spokesperson Sudhir Pawar stated that the SP's primary focus remains ensuring no PDA (Pichchda, Dalit, Alpsankhyak) voter faces deletion from the rolls.
Congress and BSP Join the Fray
The Congress party has established a state-level war room at its Lucknow headquarters and created WhatsApp groups connecting its BLAs with district office-bearers for real-time monitoring. Party spokesperson Anshu Awasthi confirmed that the Congress has finalized BLAs for most booths while emphasizing that the ultimate responsibility for fair electoral rolls rests with the Election Commission.
The Bahujan Samaj Party, under Mayawati's leadership, has prepared a simplified three-page booklet explaining EC guidelines in accessible language for its core Dalit voter base. The party has activated its Muslim and OBC Bhaichara committees to generate awareness within their communities about the revision process.
With political stakes extremely high, all major parties are leaving no stone unturned to ensure their supporters remain enrolled. The intensive revision exercise continues until November 9, with ground-level verification activities scheduled to commence from November 12, setting the stage for what promises to be a fiercely contested 2027 Assembly election in India's most populous state.
