Three Cases in TN for Violating Vote Secrecy on Social Media

Three cases have been registered by Tirunelveli and Tuticorin district police in three separate incidents regarding the violation of election rules by recording and sharing a vote on social media.

Incident at St Xavier Primary School

The incident occurred on Thursday at polling station no. 127, located at St Xavier Primary School. Based on a complaint, it was found that the accused, Jegatheesh Akilan, 38, a resident of Avaraikulam, who was functioning as a booth agent for NTK, recorded his vote on video during polling and uploaded it on his Instagram account. Such an act constitutes a violation of the secrecy of voting and is an offence under relevant election laws. Pazhavoor police have registered a case, and further investigation is in progress.

Second Case in Mukkoodal

A similar case was booked against Karthik of Mukkoodal for posting a video of his polling on social media; he was seen casting his vote for the DMK. Mukkoodal police have registered a case.

Third Case in Tuticorin

In Tuticorin, a video surfaced showing a voter polling for a TVK candidate that went viral on Facebook and Instagram. A case has been registered by Tuticorin cybercrime police. They are investigating further to identify the person who posted the video.
