Central Tamil Nadu Sees Major Voter Registration Surge in Final Electoral Roll
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has released the final electoral roll for the central region of Tamil Nadu, following a special intensive revision exercise. The updated data reveals a substantial increase of 3.2 lakh voters across the nine districts that comprise this region.
Regional Voter Statistics and District-Wise Breakdown
According to the official figures, the total number of registered voters in the central region now stands at 95.3 lakh. Trichy district emerged as the leader in voter addition, contributing 89,123 new names to the list. Thanjavur district followed closely with an increase of 59,387 voters.
In Madurai district, which encompasses 10 assembly constituencies, the final roll records 24,66,954 voters. This represents a notable rise of 1,06,797 individuals compared to the draft electoral roll published on December 19 of the previous year.
Key Developments in Trichy District
District Collector V Saravanan formally published the final electoral roll at the Trichy collectorate. Among the nine assembly segments within Trichy district, Srirangam boasts the highest voter count at 2,83,862, while Thuraiyur has the lowest with 2,09,011 voters.
Significant growth was observed in the Trichy West and Trichy East segments within the corporation limits, compared to the draft roll. Collector Saravanan highlighted that approximately 34,000 first-time voters were enrolled in Trichy district. In a remarkable instance, even an 85-year-old individual was successfully registered as a voter.
The district will maintain 2,785 polling booths, unchanged from the draft roll.
Madurai District: Infrastructure and Security Enhancements
Madurai District Collector K J Praveen Kumar announced several important updates. A total of 324 new polling stations have been established, including locations in high-rise buildings such as the Shanti Sadan Apartments in Kochadai. This expansion brings the total number of polling stations to 3,076, distributed across 1,197 locations.
Each assembly constituency will feature a dedicated model polling station designed specifically for women and people with disabilities. These stations will be staffed entirely by female personnel and will be equipped with accessibility features, as well as designated play areas for children.
Enhanced Monitoring and Security Measures
Collector Praveen Kumar identified five constituencies—Madurai East, North, South, Thiruparankundram, and Thirumangalam—for high-expenditure monitoring. Surveillance efforts in these areas will be tripled to ensure compliance with electoral norms.
Furthermore, 368 polling stations have been classified as 'vulnerable,' and 12 as 'critical.' These locations will receive additional security measures, including:
- Extra CCTV cameras for comprehensive monitoring
- Webcasting capabilities for real-time oversight
- Micro-observation equipment to track activities
- Deployment of Central Armed Police Forces for enhanced security
Designated Counting Centers and Digital Initiatives
The Election Commission has announced specific counting centers for the upcoming elections:
- TNAU (Agri College) for Melur and Madurai East constituencies
- Anna University for Sholavandhan and Usilampatti
- Thiagarajar College of Engineering for Madurai North and South
- Madura College for Madurai Central and West

In a move to promote transparency and citizen participation, the collector announced the launch of the cVIGIL mobile application. This app allows citizens to report violations of the Model Code of Conduct anonymously. The administration has committed to a '100-minute resolution time' for addressing complaints filed through this platform.
