Chandigarh: The nagar panchayat election in Mansa district recorded the highest voter turnout of 84.6%, while the nagar panchayat poll in Amritsar district registered the lowest at 53.04%, according to data released by the State Election Commission, Punjab. Overall, a total polling of 63.94% was recorded in elections to 102 urban civic bodies held on Tuesday.
District-wise Polling Details
In Mansa district, there were 26 polling booths for the nagar panchayat election, where 14,297 out of 16,899 voters cast their votes. In contrast, Amritsar district had five booths, with 2,318 of 4,369 voters exercising their franchise.
Eight districts reported urban local body polling below 60%. These included the municipal corporations of Bathinda (58.45%), Gurdaspur (58.6%), Moga (58.34%), and Mohali (54.83%); municipal councils in Faridkot (58.67%), Mohali (55.95%), and Tarn Taran (59.96%); and the nagar panchayat in Amritsar district (53.06%).
High Turnout Districts
Apart from Mansa, three other districts recorded polling above 80%: Ropar district (nagar panchayat polling at 83.96%), Fazilka district (80.22%), and Malerkotla district (80.03%).
Overall Statistics
Out of a total of 3,500,683 voters across 102 urban local bodies, 2,238,241 cast their votes at 3,833 polling booths. The State Election Commission released the data, highlighting significant variations in voter participation across the state.
