Prayagraj's Special Intensive Revision Campaign Accelerates Voter Enrollment Drive
The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign in Prayagraj has achieved remarkable progress, with a substantial 2,58,822 individuals submitting applications to register as new voters. This initiative, aimed at updating the electoral roll, has gained significant traction as authorities work diligently to ensure comprehensive voter inclusion.
Background and Initial Outcomes
The campaign's urgency stems from the recent removal of approximately 11.53 lakh voters from the district's electoral list. These individuals were categorized under ASD (Absent, Shifted, Dead), prompting administrative action to identify and enroll eligible voters to prevent any genuine elector from being excluded.
Since the SIR campaign commenced on October 27, a total of 44,123 applications were received for first-time voter registration by January 5, when the draft electoral roll was published. Following this publication, many citizens identified discrepancies in their details, leading to 66,242 voters submitting Form 8 to request corrections in the published roll. Officials have confirmed that 427 applications have been rejected so far, with scrutiny of the remaining forms currently underway.
Focus on Inclusivity and Accessibility
In a move to enhance inclusivity, special attention is being directed towards persons with disabilities who wish to register as voters but face challenges in contacting booth level officers. A dedicated campaign is scheduled from February 20 to 25 to assist such individuals.
During a meeting chaired by Additional District Election Officer Pooja Mishra, along with the District Divyangjan Welfare Officer and other officials, it was decided that booth level officers and agents will personally visit households with disabled members. Their mission is to provide and help fill Form 6 for new voter registration, ensuring that every eligible citizen, regardless of ability, has the opportunity to participate in the democratic process.
Ongoing Efforts and Future Steps
The verification and updating of applications, including those for corrections and new registrations, are actively in progress. This comprehensive approach underscores the administration's commitment to maintaining an accurate and inclusive electoral roll, paving the way for fair and representative elections in Prayagraj.
