The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has taken a strict stance against more than 200 of its employees who were assigned crucial election duties but failed to attend mandatory preparatory training sessions. The civic body has served them formal notices and warned of serious disciplinary consequences if they continue to remain absent.
Widespread Absenteeism at Crucial Training Sessions
The significant number of absences was recorded during the training programmes organised for the Belapur division. These sessions were held at the Vishnudas Bhave Theatre in Vashi on January 1 and 2, as part of the extensive preparations for the upcoming civic elections. The training is designed to equip designated staff with the necessary knowledge and protocols for a smooth polling process.
Immediate Action and Stern Warning from Administration
Acting swiftly, the NMMC administration issued the first round of notices immediately after the training days concluded with poor attendance. Civic officials have made it clear that election training is compulsory for all designated staff and that treating non-attendance as a minor lapse is not an option. The administration stated that if the employees ignore these notices and continue to stay away from the remaining training schedule, a formal case will be registered against them.
Strict Approach to Ensure Uninterrupted Polling
This firm action signals the NMMC's commitment to ensuring that fully trained manpower is available on polling day. The primary goal is to prevent any disruptions or chaos that could be caused by untrained or missing personnel during the critical election process. The corporation is leaving no room for error, emphasising that every role is vital for the democratic exercise to function seamlessly.
