Madurai Postal Voting for Out-of-District Election Workers Concludes
The postal voting process for police officers and other departmental officials assigned to election work, who are registered voters in assembly constituencies outside Madurai district, officially concluded on Sunday evening. This specialized facility was established to accommodate essential service workers who are unable to cast their votes at their regular polling stations due to their election-related responsibilities.
Eligible Departments and Services
The postal voting arrangement was made available to a wide range of essential service personnel. This included employees from Southern Railway, All India Radio, the Airports Authority of India, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, Tamil Nadu Electricity Board, and the Fire and Rescue Services Department. Additionally, other departmental officers specifically assigned for election duty, along with members of the Tamil Nadu Police, were eligible to participate provided they had duly submitted Form 12 for postal voting.
Voting Schedule and Locations
The postal voting exercise commenced on Saturday at two primary locations: Madurai Kamaraj University and the offices of the returning officer or assistant returning officer in each constituency within the Madurai district. While the voting window for personnel registered outside the district closed on Sunday, the process for those included in the electoral rolls of constituencies within Madurai district itself is scheduled to continue, concluding on Monday evening.
Purpose and Importance
This initiative is a critical component of ensuring that individuals who are deployed for essential election duties are not disenfranchised. By providing a postal ballot option, the election authorities aim to uphold the democratic right to vote for those who are working to facilitate a smooth and secure electoral process for others. The system underscores the logistical planning required to manage large-scale elections while maintaining integrity and participation.
The conclusion of this phase marks a significant step in the pre-poll preparations, with attention now turning to the final day of postal voting for in-district personnel and the upcoming general polling.
