Kanpur's Special Voter Registration Drive on National Voters Day, January 25
In a significant move to streamline the electoral process, Kanpur's election authorities have announced a comprehensive voter registration drive scheduled for January 25, coinciding with National Voters Day. This initiative, part of the SIR campaign, aims to facilitate various voter-related services across the district.
Booth Day Services and Schedule
On Sunday, January 25, a special Booth Day will be organized, offering a range of essential services to citizens. Applications will be accepted for:
- New voter registration
- Deletion of names from the voter list
- Correction of entries in existing records
- Change of address in voter ID cards
- Issuance of duplicate voter ID cards
Deputy election officer and additional district magistrate (finance and revenue) Vivek Chaturvedi emphasized that booth level officers (BLOs) will be present at all 3,770 booths in the district. These officers will accept applications submitted either online or offline using stipulated forms. The designated timings for this drive are from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm, ensuring ample opportunity for residents to participate.
Eligibility Criteria for Voter Registration
Chaturvedi provided clear guidelines regarding eligibility for inclusion in the voters list. According to the rules, individuals must meet specific age criteria based on eligibility dates:
- Persons who complete 18 years of age on the eligibility date of January 1, 2026, are eligible.
- Similarly, those who turn 18 on April 1, July 1, or October 1 of the relevant year can also apply.
- Applications from eligible citizens meeting these criteria will be accepted, and their names will be added to the voter list in accordance with established regulations.
This structured approach ensures that all qualifying individuals have the opportunity to register as voters, thereby strengthening the democratic framework.
Appeal for Public Participation
The deputy district election officer has made a heartfelt appeal to the residents of Kanpur. He urged people to take full advantage of the scheduled dates to register themselves and their family members in the voter list. By doing so, citizens can play an active and crucial role in the democratic process, contributing to the integrity and inclusivity of elections.
This initiative not only simplifies the voter registration process but also underscores the importance of civic engagement. With booth level officers stationed across the district, Kanpur's authorities are committed to making voter services accessible and efficient for all eligible individuals.
