The special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Jharkhand will formally commence on June 30, with the final rolls scheduled for publication on October 7. The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the dates for the third phase of SIR, covering 16 states and three Union Territories.
Key Dates and Process
From June 30 to July 29, booth-level officers (BLOs) will conduct door-to-door visits for voter verification. The qualifying date for the SIR has been fixed as October 1, 2026. The draft electoral roll will be published on August 5, followed by a claims and objections period until September 4. The final electoral roll will be published on October 7.
Preparation and Focus
Jharkhand's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), K Ravi Kumar, stated that preparations for the SIR began well in advance, with a focus on ensuring no eligible voter is left out. He added, "We will publish a list of unmapped voters on May 23 at all polling station levels. This list will include the names and contact numbers of respective BLOs, enabling voters to reach out for mapping. A copy of the unmapped voters list will also be provided to BLOs to finalize the ASDD list (Absent, Shifted, Dead, Duplicate). Remaining unmapped voters can prepare documents to attach with the enumeration form and submit along with the declaration."
Voter Statistics
As of May 12, 2026, the total number of voters in Jharkhand stands at 2,64,89,777. There are 29,571 BLOs engaged in the SIR work, and 21,644 booth-level agents (BLAs) appointed by various recognized political parties, according to CEO office officials.
Appeal to Citizens
Kumar appealed to the public, saying, "All eligible citizens should cooperate in this crucial exercise to ensure the process remains smooth and no legitimate person is left out of the list."
