The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Gujarat's office announced a significant public turnout for a crucial voter list update initiative. A special two-day camp, held across the state on December 27 and 28, witnessed an overwhelming response from citizens.
Massive Public Participation in Revision Drive
According to the official statement, approximately 10 lakh (1 million) voters visited the camp venues. This camp was part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls. During these two days, a total of about 2.96 lakh forms were filled by citizens for various purposes related to the voter list.
Voters received direct assistance from election staff for filling out key forms. This included Form 6 for new voter registration, Form 7 for requesting the removal of a name, and Form 8 for corrections like transferring a name or updating details.
Day-Wise Breakdown of Form Collection
The data reveals a rising trend in participation. On the first day, December 27, election officials collected more than 1.22 lakh forms. The momentum increased on the second day, December 28, with over 1.74 lakh forms (including Forms 6, 6A, 7, and 8) being submitted.
Context of the Ongoing SIR Campaign
The broader SIR campaign in Gujarat commenced earlier, on October 27. A major milestone was reached with the publication of the draft electoral roll on December 19. This draft list revealed a substantial cleanup, with 73.73 lakh voters being removed from the rolls.
In the current phase of the SIR, which includes the recent camp, voters have filled a cumulative total of 3.98 lakh forms. The process remains open for public scrutiny and claims. The CEO's office has set a deadline of January 18, 2026, for voters to raise any objections or claims regarding their inclusion or exclusion from the final voter list.
This extensive exercise underscores the election machinery's effort to ensure an accurate and updated voter database, which is fundamental to the democratic process. The high public turnout indicates strong civic engagement among Gujarat's electorate.
