In a decisive move, the Election Commission has directed Mallikarjun Kharge to provide an explanation for his statement within the next 24 hours. The commission has warned that failure to respond adequately will result in appropriate action being taken. The Election Commission has expressed strong disapproval of Kharge's language, describing it as "intemperate, highly objectionable, and dehumanising". Furthermore, the Election Commission noted that Kharge's comment contravenes its advisory issued on March 1, 2024, which urges parties and star campaigners to observe utmost restraint and engage in issue-based debates. In a related development, a BJP delegation, including Union ministers Nirmala Sitharaman, Arjun Ram Meghwal, and Kiren Rijiju, met with the EC on Wednesday.
