Delhi Chief Minister Joins BJP Campaign Blitz
In a significant display of political strength ahead of crucial municipal by-elections, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta actively participated in a BJP roadshow on Monday. The event was organized to drum up support for the party's candidates, Anita Jain and Veena Asija, who are contesting in the upcoming MCD bypolls scheduled for November 30.
Nomination Filings and Traditional Ceremonies
The roadshow was part of a series of campaign activities that commenced with the formal filing of nomination papers. Both BJP candidates submitted their nominations in the presence of CM Gupta. Before the political proceedings began, the Chief Minister inaugurated the party's election offices in the respective wards and took part in traditional havan and puja ceremonies, seeking blessings for the campaign.
Gupta specifically attended the nomination programs for Anita Jain, the candidate from Ward 56 (Shalimar Bagh-B), and Veena Asija, the candidate from Ward 65 (Ashok Vihar). Notably, both of these wards fall within the Chief Minister's own constituency, highlighting the personal stake in the election's outcome.
Focus on Development and Women Leadership
Addressing a large public gathering after the roadshow, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta framed the MCD bypolls as more than just an electoral contest. She described it as an opportunity for the people of Delhi to choose a path of clean, transparent, and development-focused governance. She praised the party's decision to field hardworking and experienced women candidates from the two wards.
Speaking about the Shalimar Bagh area, Gupta highlighted its vibrant social and religious history. She then shifted focus to her government's achievements, stating that over the past eight months, long-stalled development projects across Delhi have been accelerated. She listed several key priorities her administration has focused on:
- Resolving issues faced by slum dwellers.
- Simplifying administrative processes for traders.
- Enhancing the education system.
- Ensuring a safe environment for women and girls.
In Shalimar Bagh specifically, she claimed that projects related to school construction, community halls, and road development, which had been delayed for years, are now being completed rapidly. Taking a swipe at the opposition, Gupta asserted, "We do not make empty announcements; we deliver results," suggesting that the public is aware of what she termed as false promises from rival parties. The by-elections are being held for a total of 12 wards within the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.
