Bulandshahr Administration Launches Probe into Voter List Discrepancies
The district administration in Bulandshahr has initiated a thorough investigation. This action follows the discovery of alleged irregularities in a newly-released draft electoral roll. The draft was part of the Special Intensive Revision process in Uttar Pradesh.
Residents Report Unknown Voters Added to Their Addresses
The issue surfaced after multiple residents in the Pathan Tola locality of Pahasu town raised concerns. These individuals, living under Shikarpur tehsil, claimed that unfamiliar names were appearing on voter lists linked to their homes.
Sagir Khan, a local resident, filed a formal written complaint with the administration. He stated that the voter list was correct before the SIR process commenced last month. However, errors emerged immediately after the publication of the new draft.
"The list showed 56 additional Hindu voters registered at the homes of more than half a dozen Muslim families," Khan explained.
Details of the Alleged Discrepancies
Khan provided specific details about the situation in his neighborhood. He noted that at least eight houses displayed a sudden and unexplained increase in registered voters.
"In my own residence, listed as house number 125, at least seven extra names were added. All of these additional voters are Hindus," he said.
He further reported that eight other houses in the locality experienced a similar rise in voter registrations. According to his account, approximately 56 voters were added to the list from their area without proper justification.
Administration Responds and Corrects Errors
Shikarpur sub-divisional magistrate Arun Kumar addressed the matter. He confirmed that discrepancies identified in part number 307 of the roll were being rectified. The corrections are being processed through the use of Form 8.
Kumar assured the public that all legitimate complaints would receive attention after a verification process. "A probe is currently underway. We may take action against officials responsible for this task," he stated.
He emphasized that the issue was solely related to errors in the draft voter list. The Election Commission of India defines Form 8 as an application for correcting particulars in an electoral roll.
