The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured an early and significant advantage in the upcoming Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) elections. The party has opened its victory account even before the polling date, with two of its women candidates being elected unopposed from their respective wards.
Leaders Hail Early Success
Following the confirmation of their unopposed victories, Maharashtra BJP president Ravindra Chavan personally met and congratulated both candidates. In a significant gesture, Chavan also facilitated a phone conversation for the winners with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who extended his congratulations on their success. Party insiders view these early wins as a major morale booster, creating positive momentum for the BJP as it heads into the competitive phases of the municipal elections.
Meet the Winning Candidates
From Ward No. 18 ‘A’ in Kalyan East, which is reserved for OBC women, BJP candidate Rekha Rajan Chaudhary has been elected. Her victory was assured as she was the sole candidate to file a nomination for the seat. Chaudhary is a known activist, associated with the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal, and currently holds the position of District President of the BJP Mahila Morcha for the Kalyan division.
Similarly, from Ward No. 26-C, BJP candidate Asavari Kedar Navre has also been elected without contest. The formal scrutiny of nomination papers is scheduled for Wednesday, after which official announcements will be made, but the outcomes are already certain.
Broader Electoral Landscape in Maharashtra
Meanwhile, municipal corporation elections across Maharashtra have entered a critical phase. Tuesday marked the last day for filing nomination papers across many regions. The process witnessed a flurry of activity as candidates from major parties rushed to submit their documents. However, the period was also marked by instances of dissatisfaction, rebellion, and party switching in several areas, primarily due to the denial of tickets to aspiring nominees.
In this context, the BJP's unopposed victories in Kalyan-Dombivli stand out, providing the party with an early edge. Party leaders have credited this success to the focused efforts and strategy of state president Ravindra Chavan. As the election process unfolds, these wins are expected to energize the party's cadre and set the tone for a fiercely contested series of municipal polls across the state.
