Kolhapur reports heightened security measures for the upcoming Sangli Miraj Kupwad Municipal Corporation (SMKMC) elections. Authorities have designated 91 polling booths as sensitive, requiring extra vigilance during the voting process.
Focus on Sensitive Booths
Out of the total 527 polling booths in the corporation area, these 91 locations will receive special attention. The Sanjaynagar area tops the list with 21 sensitive booths, followed closely by Miraj city with 19. Vishrambaug has 18, Sangli city has 15, and Kupwad MIDC area has the least with only 4 sensitive booths.
To ensure transparency and security, officials have installed CCTV cameras at all these sensitive polling stations. This move aims to monitor activities and prevent any untoward incidents during the election.
Election Details and Staff Deployment
The SMKMC elections cover 18 wards where voters will elect 4 corporators each, and 2 wards where they will choose 3 corporators. In total, people will vote for 78 seats across the corporation.
A substantial workforce of 2,900 staff members will manage the voting process. They will handle everything from voter verification to ballot counting, ensuring a smooth electoral exercise.
Voter Scrutiny and Duplicate Entries
Poll officials have identified 24,644 proposed duplicate voters in the electoral rolls. Through diligent work by booth level officers, they have already completed scrutiny for 2,564 individuals. This effort helps maintain the integrity of the voter list and reduces the chances of fraudulent voting.
Similar Measures in Solapur
Meanwhile, Solapur city has also taken precautions for its civic elections. Authorities have declared 46 polling booths as sensitive in this region.
Solapur witnesses a competitive electoral landscape with 564 candidates vying for 102 seats. A total of 924,706 eligible voters will cast their ballots across 1,091 polling booths.
To ensure law and order, heavy police bandobast will cover Solapur city. Approximately 2,741 police personnel will deploy on the ground to monitor the situation closely.
Sachin Ombase, the election returning officer for Solapur, has made a public appeal. He urges all citizens to participate in peaceful voting, emphasizing the importance of a calm and orderly electoral process.
