Rajasthan Voter Roll Revision: 41.79 Lakh Names Deleted, Jaipur Tops List
41.79 Lakh Voters Deleted in Rajasthan Draft Roll

In a major update to the state's electoral database, the draft electoral roll for Rajasthan, revised under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, has seen the deletion of names of nearly 42 lakh voters. State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Naveen Mahajan announced the details on Tuesday, revealing that Jaipur district accounted for the highest number of these deletions.

Breakdown of Deleted Voter Names

The CEO's office provided a detailed breakdown of the 41.79 lakh voters whose names were removed from the draft roll. A significant portion, 8.75 lakh voters, were deleted because they had passed away since the last major revision of the roll in 2002. Another large segment, comprising 29.6 lakh individuals, were removed as they had either relocated to different areas or were found to be absent from their registered addresses.

Furthermore, the revision process identified 3.44 lakh cases of duplicate enrollments, where the same voter was registered in multiple locations. This cleansing drive aims to create a more accurate and reliable voter list for the state.

Public Participation and Next Steps

CEO Naveen Mahajan highlighted the public's overwhelming response to the first phase of the SIR. As of December 16, 5.04 crore voters out of a total of 5.46 crore have submitted their enumeration forms, marking a participation rate of 92.34%.

The election commission has outlined a clear process for those affected. Booth-wise lists of electors whose names are missing from the draft roll will be displayed on notice boards at urban local body offices and panchayat bhavans. This measure is intended to help the public easily access the list and understand the reasons for any omissions.

Window for Claims and Objections

A crucial period for corrections is now open. From December 16 to January 15, individuals and political parties can file formal claims and objections. This allows for the inclusion of eligible voters who were left out and the deletion of any ineligible names that may have been retained.

In a related development, the CEO's office stated that approximately 11 lakh voters whose names appear in the draft roll but were not mapped during the current SIR phase will receive notices from the concerned sub-divisional magistrate. These individuals can secure their inclusion in the final electoral roll by submitting the necessary documents to the authorities.
