US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor held significant talks with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Mumbai on Saturday. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation across multiple key sectors.
Strategic Discussions on Economic Partnership
The two leaders engaged in wide-ranging discussions covering trade, investment, technology, manufacturing, energy, and health sectors. They explored shared strategic priorities aimed at deepening the partnership between the United States and Maharashtra.
Boosting Investments and Business Expansion
Fadnavis revealed that discussions specifically addressed boosting US investments in Maharashtra. The talks also focused on encouraging companies from the state to expand their footprint in the United States.
"We discussed our shared strategic priorities to strengthen the bilateral relationship between the United States and Maharashtra across key sectors," Gor stated on social media platform X after the meeting. He described the interaction as "fantastic" and emphasized the significant potential for collaboration, adding, "So much we can do together."
Flagship Projects and Future Cooperation
During the meeting, Fadnavis shared details of several flagship and strategic initiatives. These included the Navi Mumbai International Education City project. Both sides agreed to work more closely to deepen the US-Maharashtra partnership moving forward.
Ambassador's Broader Engagement in Mumbai
Earlier on Saturday, Ambassador Gor met with Reserve Bank of India Governor Sanjay Malhotra. Their discussions centered on increased cooperation, particularly in the technology sector. Gor mentioned that talks included the adoption of new, state-of-the-art US technology.
The US Ambassador also visited the Gateway of India on Saturday. This followed his Friday visit to the US Consulate in Mumbai as part of his first trip to the city since assuming his diplomatic role.
Gor's Commitment to Strengthening Ties
After taking charge as US Ambassador to India, Gor expressed his commitment to enhancing bilateral relations. He stated he had "come to this remarkable nation with profound respect" and with a "mission to take the partnership between our two great nations to the next level."
Gor recalled his first visit to India in 2013, when he traveled to Jaipur, Ranthambore in Rajasthan, and Punjab, among other places. These experiences left a lasting impression on him. "When President Trump asked me to come here, I was thrilled," he noted about his current assignment.
The meeting between Ambassador Gor and Chief Minister Fadnavis represents continued efforts to strengthen economic and strategic ties between the United States and Maharashtra, India's most industrialized state.
