US President Donald Trump has extended an invitation to Russian President Vladimir Putin. He wants Putin to join the proposed Gaza "Board of Peace." Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov made this announcement on Monday.
Russia Will Clarify Details First
Peskov stated that Moscow plans to clarify all the nuances of the proposal with Washington. Russia will do this before making any decision. "President Putin has received an invitation to join this Board of Peace. Russia will clarify all the nuances of the offer with the United States," Peskov told reporters. He was speaking according to AFP reports.
Putin represents the latest world leader to receive such an invitation from Trump. The board would be chaired by the US president himself. A Palestinian committee of technocrats would work alongside him. This committee would have the task of governing the war-ravaged Gaza territory.
Structure of the Proposed Boards
The main Board of Peace would focus on several key areas. According to the White House, these areas include governance capacity-building and regional relations. Reconstruction, investment attraction, large-scale funding, and capital mobilisation are also priorities.
A secondary "executive board" would also be established. This board would likely serve a more advisory role.
Members of the Board of Peace
In addition to Trump, the board's members would include several prominent figures. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is on the list. Special envoy Steve Witkoff and the president’s son-in-law Jared Kushner are also included.
Former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair would participate. Billionaire financier Mark Rowan and World Bank President Ajay Banga are named as well. Robert Gabriel of the United States National Security Council completes the roster.
National Committee for Administration of Gaza
This body would be composed of technocrats. Ali Shaath, former Palestinian Authority deputy minister, is set to head it. The committee's mandate involves overseeing the restoration of core public services. Rebuilding civil institutions and stabilising daily life in Gaza are also crucial goals.
Gaza Executive Board
Steve Witkoff would head this executive board. Its purpose is to support effective governance. Delivering services to the people of Gaza is another key objective.
Members would include Jared Kushner and Tony Blair. Mark Rowan is also listed. Bulgarian diplomat Nikolay Mladenov and UN official Sigrid Kaad would join. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Qatari diplomat Ali Al-Thawadi are included too.
Egypt’s intelligence chief General Hassan Rashad would participate. UAE minister Reem Al-Hashimy and Israeli billionaire Yakir Gabay round out the membership.
World Leaders Invited
The heads of government or state from several countries have received invitations. The list includes nations from various regions. Albania, Argentina, and Brazil are among them. Canada, Cyprus, and Egypt are also invited.
Hungary, India, and Italy are on the list. Jordan, Pakistan, and Paraguay have been asked to join. Romania and Türkiye complete the current roster of invited nations.
