In a significant move to accommodate the anticipated surge in passenger traffic during the upcoming Republic Day and Thaipoosam festivals, the Southern Railway division has announced the operation of special train services. These measures aim to ensure smooth travel for devotees and holidaymakers, particularly in the Tamil Nadu region.
Special Train from Sengottai to Tambaram for Republic Day
To clear the extra rush of passengers during the Republic Day weekend, Train No. 06138, the Sengottai–Tambaram Express special, will be operated. This special service is scheduled to depart from Sengottai at 3:00 PM on Monday, January 26. The train will then proceed on its journey, arriving at Tambaram at 3:00 AM the following day, providing an overnight travel option for commuters.
Special Trains for Thaipoosam Festival at Palani
In connection with the Thaipoosam festival, which is set to take place in Palani on February 1, the railways have organized special train services between Madurai and Palani. These trains are designed to facilitate the movement of devotees attending the religious celebrations.
Madurai to Palani Special Train
The unreserved express special train from Madurai to Palani will commence its journey from Madurai at 6:00 AM on February 1. It is expected to reach Palani at 8:30 AM on the same day, offering a convenient morning departure for festival-goers.
Palani to Madurai Return Special Train
For the return trip, the Palani–Madurai unreserved express special will depart from Palani at 2:25 PM on February 1. This service will arrive back in Madurai at 5:00 PM on the same day, ensuring that passengers can return home comfortably after the festivities.
Halting Stations
Both the Madurai–Palani and Palani–Madurai special trains will make stops at key intermediate stations to cater to passengers from various locations. The halts include:
- Sholavandan
- Kodaikanal Road
- Ambaturai
- Dindigul
- Ottanchatram
