President Droupadi Murmu Leads Grand International Fleet Review 2026 in Visakhapatnam
The maritime strength of India and allied nations was spectacularly showcased during the International Fleet Review (IFR) 2026, which was formally reviewed by President of India Droupadi Murmu in the port city of Visakhapatnam on Wednesday. This prestigious naval ceremony highlighted global cooperation and India's growing naval capabilities on the world stage.
A Presidential Review of Naval Might
Sailing aboard the Presidential Yacht INS Sumedha, President Droupadi Murmu—who serves as the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces—conducted a thorough review of anchored columns comprising 72 frontline ships and submarines. The President was accompanied by distinguished guests including Andhra Pradesh Governor S Abdul Nazeer, Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, and Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, along with numerous other dignitaries and officials.
This marked the 13th fleet review conducted since India's independence and represents the third international edition hosted within the country. Approximately 70 countries participated in this demonstration of naval prowess and preparedness, underscoring the global significance of the event. India previously organized International Fleet Reviews in Mumbai during 2001 and in Visakhapatnam back in 2016.
Themed "United Through Oceans"
The 2026 edition carried the meaningful theme "United Through Oceans," symbolizing maritime cooperation across nations. Returning to Visakhapatnam after a full decade, this fleet review occurred at a notably different juncture in India's naval evolution, reflecting the nation's enhanced shipbuilding capabilities and strategic maritime positioning.
Naval vessels dressed in full ceremonial regalia, manned by impeccably uniformed sailors and officers, offered formal salutes to the President as she passed by. Following this ceremonial review, the impressive naval ships streamed past the Presidential Yacht in a meticulously coordinated display that created an awe-inspiring visual spectacle.
Showcasing Indigenous Naval Capabilities
The event served as a moment of tremendous pride for the Indian Navy, with numerous indigenously constructed warships and submarines prominently featured among the review columns. Most notably, India's indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant—which played a pivotal role during "Operation Sindoor"—stood as a centerpiece of the display, demonstrating India's advanced shipbuilding achievements.
The review featured an impressive array of warships including INS Chennai, INS Visakhapatnam, INS Mysore, INS Mumbai, INS Rana, INS Ranvir, INS Ranvijay, and INS Tamal. Submarines such as INS Sindhukesari, INS Shankul, and INS Sindhukerti further showcased the depth and sophistication of India's underwater capabilities. Together, these vessels presented a comprehensive picture of the country's naval strength that filled every witness with national pride.
The International Fleet Review 2026 not only demonstrated military preparedness but also served as a powerful diplomatic platform, strengthening maritime partnerships and highlighting India's role as a responsible naval power committed to global ocean security and cooperation.
