Hyderabad MP and AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi has issued a strong appeal for the safeguarding of minority communities in Bangladesh, as the neighbouring nation approaches its general elections in February. His statement comes in the wake of recent violent incidents targeting minorities.
Concern Over Attacks on Minorities
Owaisi specifically referenced the killings of Deepu Chandra Das and Amrit Mandal in Bangladesh. He asserted that such acts of violence fundamentally contradict the secular principles enshrined in Bangladesh's constitution. The MP expressed deep concern over these events, highlighting the need for immediate and firm action to protect vulnerable groups.
He emphasised that his party supports the Indian government's ongoing efforts to maintain robust and friendly relations with Dhaka. A key pillar of this relationship, according to Owaisi, is ensuring the safety and security of all communities across the border.
Stability in Bangladesh Crucial for Indian Security
The parliamentarian drew a direct link between political stability in Bangladesh and India's own national security, particularly in the sensitive northeastern region. He stated that a peaceful and stable Bangladesh is vital for India's strategic interests.
Owaisi expressed hope that the upcoming parliamentary polls in Bangladesh, scheduled for February, would be conducted peacefully and would ultimately serve to strengthen the bilateral relationship between the two countries.
