Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on Sunday that the Union defence ministry has recommended the establishment of four defence corridors in Maharashtra, located at Nashik, Pune, Nagpur, and Ahilyanagar. This initiative is expected to significantly enhance the state's defence manufacturing ecosystem.
Investment and Industrial Growth
Speaking after the inauguration of a defence manufacturing complex by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh at Shirdi, Fadnavis stated, "The proposed defence corridors will attract large-scale investments and accelerate industrial growth in the state." The complex is operated by the private sector firm NIBE Group.
Proposal and Approval Process
Fadnavis revealed that the state government had submitted a proposal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Defence Minister seeking approval. He added that the recommendation has already been forwarded to the Cabinet Committee on Security, and a final decision is expected soon.
Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India Initiatives
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister credited the Centre's 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' and Make in India initiatives for strengthening India's defence preparedness. He cited Operation Sindoor as an example of the bravery of Indian armed forces and the country's growing indigenous capabilities.
Transformation of Defence Ecosystem
Fadnavis emphasised that India's defence ecosystem has undergone a transformation, with increasing participation from both public and private sectors. This has enhanced the armed forces' ability to safeguard national interests. He also noted that as India expands its strategic strength, it is contributing to global peace and stability.
