Maharashtra CM Fadnavis Takes Economy Flight to Bengaluru

MUMBAI: In a significant move aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal during the ongoing West Asia conflict, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday traveled from Pune to Bengaluru by an economy class flight of IndiGo Airlines. This gesture underscores the growing emphasis on fuel conservation and responsible consumption among public figures.

PM Modi's Appeal for Fuel Conservation

On Sunday, while addressing a gathering in Secunderabad, Prime Minister Modi urged citizens to adopt several measures to combat the volatility of fuel prices. He called for prioritizing work from home, reducing fuel consumption, avoiding foreign travel for a year, promoting Swadeshi products, cutting down on cooking oil usage, shifting to natural farming, and curbing gold purchases. These steps are aimed at reducing India's dependence on imported oil and strengthening the domestic economy.

Shift in Transportation Habits

To address the instability in fuel prices, PM Modi emphasized a transformation in how India moves. He requested citizens to minimize petrol and diesel usage by utilizing metro and public transport wherever available, opting for carpooling when private vehicles are necessary, preferring railways for goods movement, and increasing the adoption of electric vehicles wherever feasible. Such changes are expected to significantly reduce the country's fuel import bill and promote environmental sustainability.

Convoy Downsizing by Ministers and CMs

In a parallel development, several Union Ministers and Chief Ministers have taken steps to reduce their official convoys, setting an example of austerity. Union Ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, and JP Nadda have already downsized their convoys. Following suit, Chief Ministers of various states, including Rekha Gupta, Yogi Adityanath, Mohan Yadav, Bhajanlal Sharma, Devendra Fadnavis, and Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, have also reduced the size of their motorcades. This collective move reflects a broader commitment to cutting unnecessary expenditure and conserving resources.

These actions come at a time when global oil prices are volatile due to geopolitical tensions, and India is striving to achieve greater energy independence. The steps taken by political leaders are expected to inspire citizens to adopt similar practices in their daily lives.
