The Embassy of Luxembourg in India's capital recently held a special diplomatic gathering to celebrate a historic moment for the European nation. The event, a reception to mark the Trounwiessel or the official change of throne, was hosted by Luxembourg's Ambassador to India, Christian Biever. It saw a convergence of diplomats and officials, with India's Minister of State for External Affairs, Kirti Vardhan Singh, gracing the occasion as the chief guest.
A Solemn Oath and a Historic Transition
The reception in New Delhi echoed the significant constitutional ceremony that took place in Luxembourg on 3 October 2025. On that day, His Royal Highness Guillaume formally took the oath to become the new Grand Duke of Luxembourg. The solemn proceeding was held in the Chamber of Deputies, the country's Parliament.
This event marked a pivotal chapter in Luxembourg's modern history, as it witnessed Grand Duke Henri stepping down after a reign of 25 years. The responsibility of the throne was passed to his eldest son. With this peaceful and ceremonial transition, Grand Duke Guillaume officially became the 10th Grand Duke in the nation's long and storied history.
Grand Duke Guillaume's Vision for Luxembourg's Future
In his first address as the nation's Head of State, Grand Duke Guillaume outlined a clear and forward-looking vision for his role and for Luxembourg's path ahead. He articulated a commitment to unity and progress.
The new Grand Duke stated that he sees his role primarily as a unifying figure for everyone who calls Luxembourg home. His stated intentions are to defend the country's independence, preserve its cherished traditions, and wisely embrace future opportunities. He emphasised being guided by the core values of integrity, compassion, and service.
His commitments are firmly centred on strengthening social cohesion, safeguarding democratic stability, and supporting a sustainable, innovative, and prosperous economy. Grand Duke Guillaume expressed his belief in a collaborative future, stating that together with the citizens of Luxembourg, they would cross the bridge to a tomorrow that honours the past while being vibrant and inclusive.

The presence of MoS Kirti Vardhan Singh underscored the friendly bilateral relations between India and Luxembourg. The event successfully brought together members of the diplomatic corps to commemorate this peaceful and constitutional transition of power, highlighting Luxembourg's stable monarchy and democratic traditions to an Indian audience.
