External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar held a significant meeting with Luxembourg's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Xavier Bettel, on Tuesday. The high-level discussion focused on strengthening the longstanding bilateral relationship between the two nations and identified key futuristic sectors for enhanced partnership.
Celebrating 78 Years of Diplomatic Ties
In his opening remarks, EAM Jaishankar highlighted the depth of the 78-year-old relationship between India and Luxembourg. He emphasized that the partnership has evolved substantially over the decades. Jaishankar pointed out that India views Luxembourg not only as a crucial bilateral partner but also as a significant voice within the European Union framework.
"We now have 78 years of our relationship, and we've come a long way. For us, we really see Luxembourg as a very important partner in itself but also with the European Union," stated the External Affairs Minister.
Future-Focused Collaboration: FinTech, Space, and AI
The ministers engaged in substantive talks on specific areas where the two countries can deepen their cooperation. The discussions prominently featured collaboration in FinTech (Financial Technology), space exploration, and Artificial Intelligence. These sectors represent cutting-edge domains where both nations possess unique strengths and shared interests, paving the way for mutually beneficial projects and knowledge exchange.
Jaishankar Praises Bettel's Advocacy Role
Minister Jaishankar personally acknowledged and thanked his Luxembourg counterpart for his consistent advocacy in strengthening the India-Luxembourg bond and, by extension, India's ties with the EU. He credited Bettel for playing an instrumental role in shaping the broader relationship.
"The influence you have in shaping that larger relationship, the support that you extend, that is something which is of great value to us, and I thank you because I know in many ways you've been very much an advocate of deepening the ties between India and the European Union," Jaishankar remarked.
This meeting underscores India's continued diplomatic outreach to European partners, focusing on building strategic, technology-driven alliances. The emphasis on FinTech, space, and AI signals a forward-looking approach to bilateral engagements, moving beyond traditional domains to embrace the industries of the future.
