NEW DELHI: India and the United States remain in discussions regarding a potential meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the G7 summit in France next week. However, a final confirmation is still pending as both sides work to resolve scheduling constraints to finalize the proposed engagement.
G7 Summit Participation
Prime Minister Modi is set to participate in the G7 Summit in Evian, France, on June 16-17. This would mark the first face-to-face meeting between the two leaders since PM Modi traveled to Washington in February last year, shortly after President Trump's inauguration.
Previous Reports and Objectives
The Times of India reported on June 3 that both sides were considering a meeting on the margins of the summit. If it takes place, the meeting would provide an opportunity for the leaders to review bilateral cooperation over the past year and push for an early conclusion of ongoing negotiations for a bilateral trade agreement.
